Summary
Artorias the Abysswalker was one of the four knights of Gwyn, and was considered by all to be the strongest of them. He was allied with a great grey wolf named Sif and, together, they battled the abyssal darkness.
Artorias was given many gifts with which to battle the Abyss- he was granted the Wolf Ring, to increase his poise, and a ring to allow him to avoid being swallowed by the darkness, which in turn covered his sword in darkness. For his actions he was granted a silver pendant with which to deflect dark sorceries.
When the land of Oolacile is consumed by the Abyss, Artorias is sent to deal with the situation, but in the process is devoured by the Abyss and, in turn, Manus. However, a nameless hero arrives and defeats Manus, with the feat being attributed to Artorias as his dying act of valor.
Even many years after the fall of Artorias, his Great Grey Wolf Sif still guards his grave.
